We are a small, friendly
village school in the charming village of Gainford which is between
Barnard Castle and Darlington in County Durham.
Excerpt from September 2010 Ofsted Inspection
- Extremely caring relationships are at the heart of this warm and welcoming, good school. This is demonstrated in the responses of parents and carers, a large majority of whom believe that the school values and promotes the development of the whole child.
- One parental comment, reflective of others, notes that the school is ‘excellent at welcoming children to learning creating an atmosphere which promotes confidence and individual abilities’.
- Wide-ranging learning opportunities provide pupils with experiences which engage their interest and, as a result, they enjoy coming to school.
- The outstanding development of pupils’ spiritual, social, moral and cultural knowledge and understanding contributes highly to pupils’ excellent understanding of others and of right and wrong.
- Similarly, pupils have an excellent understanding of how to keep themselves safe and healthy, using their knowledge to the benefit of themselves and others.
Extract from SIAS Church Inspection October 2010
- Christian values are explicitly lived out and provide the bedrock for everything that is done to nurture and promote human flourishing. When asked what they wanted visitors to remember about their school, the children said that, “We’re like a family – we all support each other, the school and the church work together”.
- Relationships across the school are exceptional.
- At all levels there is a vibrancy, excitement and pace about learning.
- Children are confident and understand their personal responsibilities.
- Parents and carers have a highly positive view of the school; they value its caring ethos and recognise that its impact goes well beyond the local community.
- Gainford Primary is an excellent model of a Christian community. It’s not the policies, systems and procedures alone that signify the school as a Church school, but the reality of its daily life.
