As part of an initiative to
promote local history in Gainford, particularly with reference to the spa,
the school is involved in a 2 week local history project.
Y5/Y6 have been working with Janette Hilton of Living History North East on
an oral history project. This involved learning interviewing techniques and
how to use video cameras, digital cameras and mini-discs. The children
interviewed older members of the community both at school and in the
Luncheon Club at the Village Hall as well as feeding beack to Y3/Y4 pupils.
They were fascinated to learn about the history of Gainford and many brought
old photographs, books and newspaper articles to school.
The end product of this part of the project will be a presentation to
members of the community of the digital photos, video material and audio
recordings of some of the interviews.
Y3/Y4 pupils have been working closely with storyteller, Mr. Robin Ellwood
to learn more about Gainford history and then to make a piece of drama based
on this history. This play will be performed to members of the community and
to the school at the end of the project. |
