The Open the Book team is made up of local parishioners, All of the pupils at Gainford CE Primary and Preschool had a real treat this term . The Open the Book team delivered a fabulous story for all to enjoy. The aim of Open the Book is to equip people to share Bible stories with children in an accessible and enjoyable way for those of all faiths and none and to enable children to engage imaginatively with the text?including friends from church and some of our school governors, who help to bring Bible stories alive through drama and singing. Sarah Fells, the new Children and Families Missioner for church and school has also been drafted in to be part of this hard-working team.
The team retold the story of Abraham in an exciting way so that all of the pupils from preschool to Year 6 could enjoy it. There were lots of acting and audience participation with several pupils taking the parts of goats, sheep and camels; animal sound effects were marvellous! All pupils joined in with actions and words and they all sang ‘Who put the Colours in the Rainbow’.
Mrs Riley Headteacher said,” The Open the Book Team share the stories in an exciting, engaging and memorable way making learning fun for our pupils. I really do think that the Open the Book team and the pupils involved deserve Oscars for their performances! They really add another dimension to our morning worship sessions. This is also something that all pupils can share, enjoy and learn from, from our youngest children in Pre- School to our oldest in Year 6.”
Here are some of the children’s comments:
“I liked listening to the story and seeing people in costumes,” Jessica.
“It helped me understand the story and the message it was trying to tell,” Ada.
“The actors are very good and I enjoyed joining in with the words and the acting. This helped me remember the story,” Ryan.
Gainford pupils can’t wait for their next visit in December!
