As part of their work on Remembrance Children from Gainford CE Primary and Preschool worked extremly hard to produce prayer spaces for St Mary’s Church .Even after the Remembrance service had been held at St Marys Church these thoughtful spaces were still being used
Class Swale focused on the poppy as a symbol of Armistice Day and of remembrance . Children as young as 3 made poppies and talked about the importance of poppies at this time .
Class Wear created a moving prayer space based on the Empty Chair thinking of those who gave their lives in war and lost loved ones.
Class Tees (Year 5 and 6 ) produced thoughtful and reflective work based on ‘What is Peace’and ‘Peace is in our Hands.’
Mrs Riley said ,”Our children enjoyed using these spaces for quiet reflection and were really pleased when others in our local community used the spaces they had made for their own reflection and to write down their own thoughts. It was wonderful to hear even our youngest children in our pre school being able to talk about their work with understanding ”
